“I’m a fan of music, before I’m a fan of rap” says 22-year-old rapper, producer and DJ, Maximus. Surrounded by a vast blend of music since childhood, Maximus started out with a passion for R&B before being introduced to h
ip-hop. He quickly became engrossed in the sounds of Redman, Jay-Z, DMX, Big-L, Will Smith and the Wu Tang Clan. Perhaps this mixture is the reason for his versatile and lyrically entertaining style. ”I started off just messing around free styling and recorded a song here and there on my humble home recording set up”. That soon changed whilst in New York in his teens, when his family was contemplating a move to the US. Surrounded by people who shared the same interest in a city where hip-hop is everywhere, Maximus was introduced to MC battles and ciphers. He began battling and freestyling and was heard by a local DJ who asked him to record some material for a mixtape.
